The flowers appear on the earth,
the time of the singing of birds is come,
and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land.
-Song of Solomon 2:12
The word for today: Hope.
Special Music for prayer and reflection today – Hymn To Hope. I trust you will gift yourself with this new contemplative music. I invite you to read the below by Emily Dickinson slowly and aloud to yourself. Notice what is coming up from deep within you. You may want to read it twice.
Hope Is The Thing With Feathers
-Emily Dickinson
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all.
And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.
I’ve heard it in the chilliest land
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.
It is often said that next to everyone of us, there is a jar of tears. These are painful times for many. I invite you to take whatever pain, suffering, darkness or difficulty that you are dealing with, allowing the music and images to soothe, maybe to bring calm and comfort you. Perhaps to restore your soul. Prayer – practice – breathing in hope – breathing out fear.
I hope you get to take a long walk outside today beholding the beauty that is all around, about and within you.
The Quakers say: “Walk the earth in gladness answering to that of God in everyone and everything.”
“The note we end on is and must be the note of inexhaustible possibility and hope.”
-Evelyn Underhill
Keeping hope alive – letting your heart take courage.
